Bodybuilding Judging Criteria

WOMEN'S BODYBUILDING
If there are 7 or fewer competitors, there will be one class. If more than 7 competitors, the contestants will be divided evenly into 2 classes based on bodyweight.

WEIGHT CLASSES
The promoter has the right to adjust the weight classes to make the best competition possible. In most cases the classes will be as follows:

Men’s Teens 19 yrs. & under
Men’s Junior 23 yrs. & under
Women’s Novice (one class)
Men’s Novice Lightweight 175 lbs. & under
Men’s Novice Heavyweight 175 ¼ lbs. & over
Women’s Grandmaster 50 yrs. & over
Men’s Grandmaster 50 yrs. & over
Women’s Master 40 yrs. & over
Men’s Master 40 yrs. & over
Women’s Open Lightweight 118 lbs. & under
Women’s Open Heavyweight 118 ¼ lbs. & over
Men’s Open Bantamweight 140 lbs. & under
Men’s Open Lightweight 140 ¼ - 155 lbs
Men’s Open Middleweight 155 ¼ - 175 lbs
Men’s Open Light-heavyweight 175 ¼ - 190 lbs
Men’s Open Heavyweight 190 ¼ lbs. & over
Women’s Open Pro (one class)
Men’s Open Pro (one class)

BODYBUILDERS:
Contestants will wear 2 ID badges; one placed right front and one placed center back.

MUSIC:
NO PROFANITY IN POSING MUSIC. Music must be no longer than 60 seconds;

Pro competitors may last up 120 seconds.

Music must be in CD-Rom format and should be the only music on the CD.

CROSSOVER:
Maximum of 3 Crossovers

SUITS:
Bodybuilding Prejudging: Must be one solid color, no metallic, T-Back, or G-String are permitted. No jewelry (small earrings are O.K.).

NOVICE:
Open to contestants that never placed Top 5 in ANY open competition or first place in ANY Novice division.

PROPS:
While props are allowed, the use of them is limited. Special requests for posing routines (routine time & out of the ordinary props) must be made no later than two weeks before the show.

JUDGING:
Each of the 14 poses will be used to compare contestants, and bodybuilders will be placed from first to last place in each pose. If/when your number is called, raise your hand and change places with the other contestant so that better comparisons may be made.

This is followed by the head judge putting the group through fourteen mandatory poses.

***Judges having a family member, trainee or friend on the panel must step down during that class being judged.

The Prejudging consists of a group presentation and quarter turns.

(Arms hanging is normal as possible, feet flat, and no twisting) form.

You will be judged on semmetry, muscle density, muscle separation, hardness, vascularity, stage presence, pre-contest preparation such as painting, oil, posing. Judges are looking for the total package from head to toe on pose.

At the end of pre-judging, the lower the score… the higher the placement. High and low scores will be thrown out. There will be 5-7 judges.

Symmetry

There are 13 mandatory poses for pre-judging.

Front Double Biceps
Front Lat Spread With Thighs Flexed
Abdominal Pose With Hands Behind Head
Left-Side Chest Pose
Left-Side Triceps With Leg Flexed (to show side leg definition)
Back Double Biceps
Back Lat Spread (with one leg spiked)
Double Calf Raise
Right-Side Chest Pose
Right-Side Triceps With Leg Flexed (to show side leg definition)
Leg Display (Right & Left)
Hands-on-hips / Most Muscular
Crab / Most Muscular (hands in front & not clasped)

The Head Judge may also use the following optional poses:

Left-Side Twisted Crunch (Serratus / Intercostals Crunch)
Right-Side Twisted Crunch (Serratus / Intercostals Crunch)
Hands Behind the Back "Most Muscular"
Overhead Victory

Note: There is no individual posing during Prejudging.

Intermission

The Top Fives will be posted backstage

Awards Presentation

  • There will be one female and male Best poser Award.
  • Top 5 to free-style pose to house music for 45 seconds.
  • Award given: 5,4,3,2,1.
  • Winners will stand 5 – 3 – 1 - 2 – 4, and will then hit a couple of poses together for

Photos

  • 1st place Winner will then pose alone for couple of photos.
  • After Women’s open classes, Winners will return to stage for mandatory free-style

Posing to determine overall title. Posing will continue until judges have made their decision. Overall Award will be given. This format will be followed for Men’s open.

***Men’s & Women’s Overall Champion must be an Open competitor. Teens, juniors, Master & Grandmaster competitors may not compete for overall unless they have crossed over and won an Open class.
